YepTap - Video Downloader
Last updated:
The extension identifies video posts on supported websites and adds a button that opens the selected post in YepTap. Video detection happens in your browser. Your chosen language is stored locally. The extension does not run analytics, sell your data, or send us a record of the posts you browse.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
YepTap ("we", "us", or "our") provides the YepTap - Video Downloader Chrome extension. This policy explains the data handled by the extension and what happens when you choose to open a post on yeptap.com. The extension currently supports X (including Twitter domains) and Instagram.
You do not need to create a YepTap account or connect your X or Instagram account to use the extension.
2. Information processed in your browser
Video detection and post links
On supported pages, the extension examines page elements such as video players, video thumbnails, post links, and action controls. It uses this information to identify a video post, associate the correct post link with the download button, and match the button to the website's appearance. This inspection takes place locally in your browser, including when a video has not started playing.
The extension does not send this page inspection to YepTap in the background. It does not build a browsing history or keep a list of the posts you view.
Language preferences
The extension reads your browser's interface language to select a supported translation, with English as the fallback. If you select a language yourself, it saves only that language preference in Chrome's local extension storage. This setting is used for the popup, button tooltip, and language of YepTap pages opened by the extension. It is not synced to our servers or through Chrome Sync.
3. What happens when you click a download button
When you click a YepTap button on a post, the extension opens an HTTPS page on yeptap.com in a new tab. The address includes the platform, selected language, and the post's identifier. The identifier is initially placed in the URL fragment (the part after #), which is not included in the initial HTTP request. The YepTap page then reads it and sends the corresponding post identifier or public post URL to YepTap's video-resolution service to retrieve the preview and available download options.
This action shares the selected post with YepTap so we can provide the feature you requested. The extension does not send your account password, authentication cookies, or the rest of your feed. Opening the supported-sites link in the popup opens the YepTap homepage in the selected language without sending a post identifier.
As with an ordinary website visit, your browser connects to the website and provides network information such as your IP address, browser information, and any existing cookies for that website. The extension does not make these website requests until you choose to open YepTap.
4. The YepTap website and external services
After you open YepTap, the website operates separately from the extension. To resolve a video, YepTap requests public post metadata from the relevant source platform or its public endpoints. Video previews and downloads are retrieved by your browser directly from the source platform's media delivery services. Those services can receive the network information needed to deliver the content and apply their own privacy policies.
If X's public endpoint returns an empty post, YepTap may send the selected post's numeric identifier from its server to the FxEmbed public metadata service. If that service cannot provide usable public metadata, YepTap may request it from VxTwitter, including a lookup of the post author's public account handle to verify that the account is public. These server requests do not include your source-platform login cookies, password, browser identifier, or IP address. The selected service receives YepTap's server network information and the requested post identifier or public author handle. Media files are still delivered directly from X's media services to your browser.
The website and its hosting, content-delivery, and security providers may process request details, including IP addresses, browser information, timestamps, and requested pages, for operation, security, and troubleshooting. The website also uses an anonymous browser cookie and keyed identifiers for visitor counts and aggregate usage statistics. These are website functions; the extension itself does not create analytics identifiers or collect usage events.
Optional website analytics, such as Google Analytics, or advertising integrations may be enabled on the website. Use the website's Privacy choices controls, where available, to manage optional services. The extension does not include advertising or analytics code and does not send the page content it inspects to advertising services. This privacy-policy page does not load analytics or advertising scripts.
5. Permissions and access
- Supported-site access: content scripts run on the X, Twitter, and Instagram domains listed in the extension manifest. They identify video posts and add the YepTap button.
- Storage: the
storagepermission remembers your manually selected language in local extension storage.
The extension does not request permission to read your browsing history, access cookies through Chrome's cookies API, read the clipboard, or use Chrome's downloads API. It does not read passwords or private messages, request account authentication, or access unrelated websites. Private-message, Stories, and live-stream routes are outside the extension's video-post detection feature.
6. How information is used and shared
Information handled by the extension is used only to identify supported video posts, provide the download handoff you request, and remember your language preference. We do not sell or rent extension user data, use it for personalized advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility.
We do not provide background access to the page content inspected by the extension. Information sent after you open YepTap is processed only as needed to operate and secure the requested service, by service providers acting for those purposes, or where disclosure is required by law. If you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond to your request.
YepTap's use and transfer of information received through the extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
7. Storage, retention, and deletion
Your language preference remains in local extension storage until you change it or remove the extension. The extension does not persist post links, video files, or a personal download history. Temporary page references are used while the content script is running and are not uploaded as a browsing record.
Once you open the website, YepTap may temporarily cache public post metadata to provide the requested service and retain aggregate website statistics and operational or security records for those purposes. This is separate from the extension's local setting. Files you choose to download remain under your control in your browser or device; removing the extension does not delete those files.
You can change the language from the globe icon in the extension popup, manage website cookies and site data in your browser, or uninstall the extension to remove its local setting. Contact us with questions or requests concerning information held by YepTap.
8. Security
The extension opens YepTap using HTTPS and validates supported post URLs before creating the handoff. Its language preference is kept in Chrome-managed local extension storage. No method of storage or transmission can guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the extension or its data practices change. We will publish the revised policy at this address and update the date above. Material changes that require additional notice or consent will be handled in accordance with applicable requirements.
